11 April 2024 | Tennis Victoria

For those that celebrate, we hope you had a wonderful Easter break. And to the many clubs across Victoria that hosted Easter Tournaments, congratulations on delivering fantastic events in your community and creating valuable memories and lasting economic impact to your regions.

I had the pleasure of attending the Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club’s 100th edition of its famous Easter Tournament. I thank the club for the invitation and the opportunity to celebrate such a momentous occasion. It was wonderful to see so many past champions in attendance and to hear how important the event and the sport is in their lives.

I also had the pleasure of attending the Buninyong Tennis Association’s 90th birthday celebrations in March. In my early days at Tennis Victoria, I attended the 75th at this association, so it was great to visit again to join in the 90th birthday celebrations.

On Wednesday 27 March I had the pleasure of attending the Victorian School Sport Awards. Tennis was well represented with Ayush Salunkhe from Laburnum PS and Gabrielle Villegas and Jin Woodman from Maribyrnong College winning Sporting Blue Awards.

After three years of planning and construction, it was fantastic to represent Tennis Victoria at the opening of the new Monash Tennis Centre at the Glen Waverley Sports Hub. The Monash Tennis Centre will be the new home to the Glenburn Tennis Club and features 18 courts, including two show courts. The Monash Tennis Centre was funded through a partnership between the City of Monash and the Victorian State Government through the North East Link project. We look forward to this new facility supporting tennis in the City of Monash as well as providing playing opportunities for many by hosting tournaments and competitions. We are continuing to support the Boroondara community to facilitate their playing opportunities following the closing of the Boroondara Tennis Centre as part of the North East Link project.

Finally, as we move ahead with refreshing the strategy for tennis in Victoria, I invite you all to attend our upcoming networking event. We are hosting a Strategy engagement event on Wednesday 1 May from 7pm. There are over 10 venues that you can attend from Melbourne to Mildura. This will be a hands-on workshop event so in person attendance is essential. To find out more and register for your closest location, click here

Don’t forget, there are many education and learning opportunities available to you year-round. Visit Learn and Serve to find sessions relevant to you. We also list all known Grant opportunities available here.

Please continue to connect with the Tennis Victoria team if we can assist with any of the above projects.

Happy Hitting
