18 September 2024 | Tennis Victoria
Tennis Victoria is excited to unveil the launch of the Green Ball Series (GBS), set to kick off in 2025. Aimed at 10/u players, the GBS provides a structured and accessible pathway into competitive tennis within local tournament environments.
Green Ball Series Structure
In 2025, Clubs, Associations, and Coaches across Victoria will have the chance to host GBS events as part of Tennis Victoria’s Junior Tour J250/125, Junior Development Series (JDS), or other junior community tournaments. All GBS tournaments will feature a round robin format followed by an elimination playoff to determine the finals. Players will compete in singles matches, with results contributing to local leaderboards that track performance across the season.
Pathway for 10/u Players
The Green Ball Series is designed to offer 10/u players a progression from local competitions to state-level representation. Points earned based on tournament finishes will be added to each player’s local leaderboard. At the conclusion of all GBS associated tournaments, the top-performing players will have the chance to compete in regional and state-level championships.
- The top 16 Regional and 32 Metro players will be invited to the GBS Regional and Metro Championships in September 2025.
- From there, the top 2 Regional and top 8 Metro players from each area will advance to the Tennis Victoria GBS State Finals in October 2025.
Key Pathway to Super 10s Trials
The Green Ball Series will also serve as a qualifying pathway for the prestigious Super 10s program. Tennis Victoria and Tennis Australia will use the GBS leaderboards to invite top-performing players to the Super 10s trials, creating another exciting opportunity for emerging talent to be scouted for advanced competition and training.
Geographic Areas and Hosting Eligibility
The GBS will span across various Metro and Regional areas in Victoria, offering widespread access to competitive tennis:
Metro Areas:
- East Melbourne
- West Melbourne
Regional Areas:
- Mornington Peninsula
- Gippsland (East & Central Gippsland)
- North East (Goulburn and North East)
- North West (Loddon Campaspe & Northern Mallee)
