21 October 2024 | Tennis Victoria
The 2024 Tennis Victoria Player Awards took place on Sunday 20 October at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club where members of the Victorian tennis community gathered to recognise the outstanding players of Victorian tennis from Tennis Victoria Pennant to the international stage. Olympic Gold Medallist John Peers claimed the big award of the night, being named Victorian Player of the Year for the second time.
Tennis Victoria’s CEO Kim Kachel was delighted to celebrate the achievements of the award winners and finalists alongside the Victorian tennis community.
“It has been an absolute privilege to celebrate the incredible achievements of not only our winners, but all of our finalists at the 2024 Tennis Victoria Player Awards. The remarkable dedication and results achieved by the players in each category is truly inspiring. These awards highlight the strength across all levels of tennis in Victoria, and having the opportunity to acknowledge such outstanding players in front of the community tonight is truly an honour. Congratulations to all finalists, and a special mention to the winners for their achievements in our wonderful sport.”
In the athlete categories, Glenn Busby won the 30+ Tennis Master Award and Finn Broadbent won the Most Outstanding Athlete with a Disability. The Junior Athlete of the Year Awards were won by Jin Woodman and Ava Beck and the Coaching Excellence – Development award was taken home by George Vogiatzis from VIDA Tennis.
Adding to his Olympic gold medal from Paris earlier this year, John Peers was named the 2024 Victorian Player of the Year.
The night also honoured the standout performers of Tennis Victoria Pennant and State Grade. The Pennant Players of the Year were announced, along with the Rising Stars of State Grade and the State Grade Team of the Year for both the Men’s and Women’s competition.
Seven clubs were recognised for their commitment to the Tennis Victoria Pennant competition, being awarded Community Engagement Awards.
The Tennis Victoria Player Awards are aligned with the Australian Tennis Awards. Where applicable, winners of Victorian Awards are now eligible for nomination in the 2024 Newcombe Medal (Australian Tennis Awards).
