As Week 0 of the Australian Open (AO) comes to a close and the official start of AO Week 1 draws near, we have taken the opportunity to highlight the performances of all Victorians who competed in the qualifying rounds.
The qualifying tournament served as a platform for former top 30 players, emerging Victorian talents, and rising stars to battle for a coveted spot in the AO main draw. The competition began with 128 men and 128 women vying for their place at Melbourne Park.
On the women’s side, the entry list featured local Victorian players Arina Rodionova and Destanee Aiava, along with wildcard recipients Elena Micic and Jaimee Fourlis. The men’s entry list included two additional Victorian wildcard recipients, Marc Polmans and Matthew Dellavedova.
Day 1
The Australian Open qualifiers began with a strong performance from Victoria’s Destanee Aiava, who defeated Romania’s Ana Bogdan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Aiava’s confident start set the tone for an exciting week ahead.
Day 2
Day 2 featured five matches involving Victorians, delivering plenty of action.
In the women’s draw, Arina Rodionova defeated Aliona Falei 6-3, 7-5, showcasing her composure in key moments. Rising star Elena Micic battled through a tense three-setter to overcome Elena Pridankina, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Jaimee Fourlis put up a valiant fight but narrowly lost to Sara Sorribes Tormo in a marathon clash, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.
In the men’s matches, Terence Atmane showcased resilience and skill, rallying to overcome a strong challenge from Matthew Dellavedova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile, Valentin Royer delivered a standout performance, securing a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Marc Polmans.
Day 3
The third day brought mixed results. Arina Rodionova’s run ended after a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Germany’s Eva Lys.
Destanee Aiava continued her strong form, overpowering Hungary’s Panna Udvardy 6-4, 6-1 to reach the final qualifying round. Relive some moments from her exciting match here.

Day 4
Day 4 of qualifiers saw Destanee Aiava secure her spot in the AO main draw with a thrilling 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Eva Lys, delighting the home crowd. You can rewatch her match winning point here.
Elena Micic, cheered on by family and friends, fought hard against Polina Kudermetova but fell just short, losing 6-4, 7-5.
The qualifying rounds were a testament to the grit, determination, and talent of all participating players. We extend our congratulations to those who triumphed and earned their place in the AO main draw, and we commend all the Victorians for their outstanding efforts and sportsmanship.
