Rutherglen Lawn Tennis Club’s very own Peter Smith has been awarded our first Community Champion of the Month for this year, and it’s clear to see why. As a dedicated volunteer and a very passionate President of the club, Peter’s contributions go above and beyond to create a vibrant and welcoming space for the local tennis community in Rutherglen.
Peter’s recent endeavours demonstrate his steadfast commitment to making improvements to the club for members and visitors alike. Having recognised the need for greater court access, he was the driving force behind the recent installation of an igloo lock system, ensuring easier entry for everyone. He has also worked tirelessly to raise funds for the club by leading the way with the Container Deposit Scheme and also working closely with the local Lions Club. These funds are crucial for future projects at the club such as upgrading the lights to more energy-efficient LED.
Despite recent challenges with the club’s synthetic courts, where two courts have currently been deemed unplayable due to damage caused by Corella birds, Peter’s determination hasn’t wavered. He has been keenly working with the local council to create a plan to resurface the damaged courts, ensuring players can enjoy them once again.
Peter’s efforts don’t stop at just improvements to the club’s infrastructure. He’s heavily involved in the day-to-day activities of the club. From supporting the delivery of Community Play Hot Shots and working alongside the local coach to hosting the Indigo Shire junior social match play, Peter plays a major role in fostering a love for tennis within the Rutherglen community.
Peter’s dedication to Rutherglen Lawn Tennis Club is nothing short of outstanding. His commitment, passion, and leadership have left an indelible mark on the club and the community it serves.
Congratulations, Peter, on being our Community Champion of the Month for January! Your efforts are truly inspiring to all those around you and are greatly appreciated by your club. Keep up the incredible work!
