Mosman Park Tennis Club overpowered the Cottesloe Tennis Club home side advantage on Saturday 24 March, to claim their maiden State League title 8-3-53 to 1-2-36.

After finishing the 2017-18 season on top of the ladder and posting a convincing win against Royal Kings Park Tennis Club in the semi-finals, Cottesloe failed to capitalise on the home court advantage with their only win coming from number one player Tristan Schoolkate who defeated Mosman Park’s Aaron Leeder-Chard.

Despite dropping the first set 2-6, 17 year old Schoolkate wasn’t going down easily. Schoolkate tore through the second set 6-3 before the third set went to a thrilling tie-break 7-6(5).

The tables soon turned with Mosman Park winning the next three matches. Mosman Park’s Captain Brenton Bacon defeated Cottesloe’s Andrew Roberts 6-2 6-4 and Alex Downey defeated William Hann 6-2 7-5.

Joel Pleydell looked to salvage Cottesloe’s titles hopes as he faced off again Mosman Park’s number on player Brydan Klein, who currently holds a world ranking of 343 in doubles and 144 in doubles. Despite a tight first set, Klein proved too powerful for Pleydell, taking the match 6-7(8) 2-6.

The 3-1 score after the singles matches concluded meant that the finals were wrapped up by visiting team Mosman Park and no therefore no need to play the doubles.
