26 October 2011 | Tennis West

“After 16 hours of flying and transit we arrived in our destination, Nanjing  safe and sound with our hotel overlooking the amazing tennis complex.

Next came the cultural  “shock that is a traditional Chinese dinner that all the kids handled very well. This morning we have a 3 hour morning training session, followed by a coaching seminar and then back onto court. The main activities of the week will be taking part in the 5 day national training camp to be conducted by Head American coach Jeff Bearup as well as footwork specialist Erick Stevenson.

The kids will be put through their paces with a  full integration with the Chinese national champions. During this week they will also compete in a small tournament  with the players involved in the camp. Friday and Saturday will see the official China/ Australia cup being played in a Davis Cup like format including singles, doubles and mixed doubles. The team representing Tennis West is Megan Kauffman, Charleen Tiwari, Sasha Bollweg, Maddison Inglis, Luke Keddie and Corey Bavin, with Tennis West coaches Joe McCarthy and Andrew Roberts leading the touring team.” Joe McCarthy
