10 January 2012 | Tennis West

The 2012 Legends Brunch was considered a HUGE success with 320 attendee’s flocking to the Astral Ballroom to be enthralled by special guest Pat Cash.

Cash offered a very articulate and open interview with MC Peter Vlahos offering insights into his career and life after tennis including his love of being a grandfather…achieved at the tender age of 44!

The only person in the room who managed to upstage Cash on the morning, was the princess of the cup herself, Mrs Lucy Hopman! Mrs Hopman posed for endless photos and chatted to adorning fans throughout the morning before many guests and herself went onto the Burswood Dome to watch the doubleheader match between Australia and China and France and Spain.

Guests were also treated to a surprise panel featuring West Australian sweetheart Jessica Moore and up and comers Scott Jones and Jack Lyttle. All 3 players have developed into fine young athletes through the Tennis West and Tennis Australia athlete development program and have individually been rewarded with scholarships through the 100 club.

The players took the audience through their extensive weekly routine and shed some light on the incredible tennis tours they have been a part of so far.

Cash did however steal the show as he displayed a softer side to his ‘cool and colourful’ reputation. Passionately talking about his family and his love for the Hawthorn footy club, he acknowledged tennis was a huge part of his life, but did not define him. He invited questions from the audience and took time and compassion to answer them fully.

As the brunch wrapped up, there was only one thing left to do – Draw the lucky winner of the Linneys Tahitian Black Pearl necklace. Trish Ross, President of the Women in Tennis Committee was pleased to present the stunning pearl to a very excited (and deserving) Jenifer Collins. By the time the next raffle prize was drawn out Jenifer was already parading her latest addition to the audience around her neck! Congratulations Jenifer, and thank you again to our valued sponsor, Linneys.

Tennis West would like to extend a large thank you to the Women In Tennis Committee, Pat Cash, Jessica Moore, Scott Jones, Jack Lyttle and Peter Vlahos who were vital in bringing the brunch together. All monies raised from this event go to supporting WA juniors all across the state via the 100 Club and Women in Tennis.
