13 January 2012 | Tennis West

Hopman Cup goers were well and truly treated to a fun filled day on Monday 2 January.

Firstly – They were rewarded by a public holiday celebrating the New Year

Secondly – They watched top quality tennis with the eventual Champions of the Hopman Cup, the Czech Republic in World number 2 Petra Kvitova and World number 7 Tomas Berdych, take down the gallant Bulgarian duo in Tsvetana Pironkova and Grigor Dimitrov..

And thirdly, it was Tennis West Family Day so patrons were invited to see how many kilometres per hour they could clock up on the speed serve, partake in a mini tennis battle, enter the ‘guess the balls’ competition, face painting, giveaways and receive free trials of the latest Tennis Australia initiative, ‘Cardio Tennis’.

It was also the lucky day for 16 enthusiastic 6-10 year olds who were given the opportunity to showcase their new skills on centre court in between matches. Adorning fans cheered from the grandstands as the stars of tomorrow strutted their stuff as proud MLC Tennis Hot Shot participants, before launching the low compression red-balls into the crowd.

Congratulations to all the on-court participants including Charles Casale, Luke Egger, Tom Mulroney, Daniel Rinaldi, Brendan Jayaprakash, Tristan Massimi, Zachary Griffiths, Matthew Van Selm, Dylan Parker-Graham, Derek Parker-Graham, Rani Fletcher, Christian Wong, Zachary Harper, Jacques Baum, Aryn Miller, Andrew Horridge.
