Seventeen-year-old Storm Sanders (Safety Bay, WA) won her first Junior ITF Grade 1 title at the 23rd Mitsubishi Lancer Junior International in Manila, Philippines on Sunday.

The West Australian won six matches in a row, defeating several seeded players including top seed Elizaveta Kulichkova (RUS), [11] Oleksandra Korashvili (UKR) and [8] Nao Hibino (JPN) along the way, before overcoming fourth seed Anna Tyulpa (RUS) to win the championship, 4-6 6-3 6-1.

In the boys’ singles final, [11] Jordan Thompson (Cherrybrook, NSW) went down to No.1 seed and in-form Nikola Milojevic (SRB) 6-0 7-5.

Thompson, however, scored a victory in the boys’ doubles, when he and Jay Andrijic (South Penrith, NSW) defeated No.4 seeds Siyu Liu (CHN) and Lukas Mugevicius (LTU) 6-2 6-2 to win the title.

In a thrilling girls’ doubles final, No.2 seeds Abbie Myers (Georges Hall, NSW) and her partner Barbora Krejcikova (CZE) narrowly lost to Mami Adachi and Hikari Yamamoto of Japan 6-3 2-6 [10-4].

Sanders’ win marks the end of a four-week Australian Asia ITF tour for some of our juniors. The group will return home on Tuesday.
