On 16 March 2012, Manning Tennis Club held its second annual parent-offspring doubles event to raise funds for a charity. Redkite was the winner in that it received a $2,220 donation for its support services to families in which a child has been diagnosed as having cancer.
Thirty-three family pairs (teams) played three rounds of 15 minutes each in a two division competition. Players had two serves each in rotation and the score was how many points were won by each team within the time limit.
After the tennis, participants enjoyed a meal of lasagne, salads and sweets that were largely donated. Then followed an auction of donated goods conducted by longstanding former club coach and life member, Ian Walker.
The coming together of families for the event (about 100 persons) was a social occasion in which competition and good company were present. The kids were quick to get hold of the chips on offer with the meal.
Organisers of the event, club coach Nik Rodic and director of junior development Richard Price, thanked the parents present for their contributions towards its successful outcome. Last year, the club raised $2,500 for the Back Dog Institute.
