The National Academy – Perth has had a number of significant results recently at tournaments including the Nationals at the December Showdown, the Grade 1 Traralgon Junior ITF, the Australian Open Junior Championships and three ITF events in New Zealand.
Maddison Inglis has been a stand out performer over the past two months reaching the semi-final of the girls singles events in both the 14’s and 16’s Nationals at the December Showdown. Maddison backed this up by qualifying for the Loy Yang Traralgon International Championships in Victoria. Madison lost a close three set encounter to the number 2 junior player in the world – Katarina Siniakova (who went on to become runner-up in the Australian Open Juniors). Maddison continued her great form in New Zealand by reaching a singles final, a semi-final and a Quarterfinal in the three ITF tournaments in New Zealand that she competed in. With her impressive string of victories, Maddison has dropped her ITF World junior ranking from 1280 to 414 in the World.
Other notable National Academy performances on tour this summer
-Scott Jones won the U/14 boys National Doubles Title at the December Showdown with partner Max Purcell. This was Scott’s second national title of the 2012 year the first coming with National Academy player Jack Lyttle at the National Grasscourts
– Anja Dokic made her first singles Semi-final at the ITF Group 3 event in New Zealand.
– Former National Academy player Storm Sanders won her first ITF Women’s Pro-Circuit event at the $25,000 event held in Launceston.
– Astra Sharma with partner Samantha Harris made the round of 16 at the Australian Open Junior Girls Doubles.
– The Western Australian 14’s Girls State Team finished Runner-Up to Victoria at the December Showdown. The team consisted of – Maddison Inglis, Sasha Bollweg and Sara Stikic
