Wheelchair Sports WA being presented with a Tennis Wheelchair from His Excellency Malcolm McCusker
Cottesloe Tennis Club played host to the Inaugural Governor’s Charity Tennis Day on Friday 12th April 2013. There was a great turnout in support of Variety – the Children’s Charity. Funds raised on the day will be used to support the growth of wheelchair and indigenous tennis amongst children in WA. Tennis West will be working closely with Wheelchair Sports WA and with the Mulpirrmarra Connection to deliver these programs.

A few sets of tennis were enjoyed by guests before the rain set in and play was called off. Guests were then asked to dig deep for the fundraising auction, bidding on a selection of sporting memorabilia and other items. An amazing $20,000 was raised and a generous donation of equipment worth $10,000 was contributed from Tennis Australia.
Special guests on the day included the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Malcolm McCusker and his wife Tonya McCusker, The Premier, The Hon Colin Barnett, The Hon Fred Chaney and MLC Tennis Hot Shots Ambassador and Fed Cup Captain Alicia Molik. Tennis Australia’s Inclusion Coordinator, Brenda Tierney, and National Indigenous Coach, Ian Goolagong, also attended.
