29 May 2013 | Tennis West

The Midwest Zone roadshow took place on 13-16 May, 2013. Close to 240 primary school students participated in Tennis Australia’s National program, MLC Tennis Hot Shots (MLCTHS).

Paul Oldfield and Callum Ross, Tennis West Community Tennis Officers, introduced MLCTHS to Dongara District High School, Yuna Primary School (PS), Chapman Valley PS and Waggrakine PS.

Mini-Red courts were set up on school playgrounds, basketball courts, and an undercover area. To create the courts required for anywhere up to 30+ school kids, 3metre nets along with additional net tape were used.

All students participated in a number of fun and creative warm-up games along with racquet skills focusing on their co-ordination. The main theme focused on the forehand and all students had a go in teams of 3 with a competition followed by a mini-tournament using the Connect-4 game. All students received a Tennis West gift.

Tennis West would like this opportunity to thank the D’Arcy Slater Foundation for their generous support of tennis in Regional WA.
