30 July 2013 | Tennis West

The Sorrento Tennis Club hosted one of the most important junior tournaments in the WA tennis calendar with the 2013 City of Joondalup Junior Hard Court Tournament that was run during the school holidays from Monday 8th – Friday 12th July. This event was generously sponsored by the City of Joondalup in recognition of the benefit it brings to our developing juniors and the local tennis community.

This Silver Series Tournament offered Australian Ranking points for 12, 14 and 16 year age groups of both genders and included non ranking point events for children aged 10 years and under. A record number of 270 junior players entered with about 50 of these from clubs within the City of Joondalup.

The tournament featured most of the WA’s best junior players and the finals were played on Friday 12th July with a display of very high quality tennis.

The highlight of the tournament was the Boys’ 16 Singles final that was won by the 12th seed Luke Keddie (Sorrento Tennis Club) against top seed Rafe Bonini (Brixton Street Tennis Club) in three tightly contested sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.

Feedback from the officials, players and their families was very positive and the Sorrento Tennis Club was complimented on its excellent facilities and food kiosk as well as the high standard of organisation and running of the tournament.

The Sorrento Tennis Club wishes to thank the sponsors City of Joondalup, Tennis Only and Sports Surfaces for their continuing support of tennis in WA.
