4 September 2013 | Tennis West
How would you like Roger Federer to be playing for your town at Australian Open 2014?
Or Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova?
And how would you like to win lots of prizes for you, your school, tennis club or community group, simply by playing tennis?
Welcome to the AO Blitz, a Grand Slam-sized challenge that anyone, anywhere can join. It’s a competition for all ages, all tennis abilities, all around Australia!
From August right through to Australian Open 2014, the AO Blitz team will be taking tennis online and on the road like never before.
Wherever you are around the country, we’re inviting you to take on a series of tennis challenges to score some great prizes and earn points for your community.
At the end of the AO Blitz, the community with the most points will have one of the world’s top players at Australian Open 2014 play for their town on court at Melbourne Park.
To help share the excitement of the AO Blitz, Tennis West will be holding 6 community tennis events. These activations will encourage all Australians to pick up a racquet and play tennis, as well as sign up to start collecting points online.
Community activations may include:
- Photo opportunities with the Australian Open trophies
- Free MLC Tennis Hot Shots and Cardio Tennis clinics
- Speed serve and other fun, tennis-themed activities
- Spot prizes and tennis giveaways
The following clubs/open spaces will be hosting an AO Blitz Activation so ensure you keep these dates free!
1. Margaret River Tennis Club: Friday 11 October
2. Lawley Park Tennis Club (Albany): Sunday 13 October
3. Sorrento Tennis Club: Friday 18 October
4. Fremantle Kings Square: Sunday 20 October
More information regarding these activations will be sent out closer to the date.
So, how tennis is your town?
Maybe some of the schools in your community are members of the Tennis Australia National Schools Partnership Program. Perhaps the local tennis club delivers MLC Tennis Hot Shots and Cardio Tennis programs. All will earn you bonus points in the AO Blitz, and help push your town higher up the community leaderboard to score a top player at Australian Open 2014.
What’s more, we’re proud to be working with National Breast Cancer Foundation and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and raise valuable funds for charity.
