Sorrento Tennis Club recently hosted the first tournament of the 2013 Medibank Junior Development Series over the weekend of 31st August – 1st September 2013. Of the 72 players who entered, 50 were in the 10/U and 12/U round robin singles events, which indicates the growing popularity of tennis for younger age groups. The turnout also shows that the HotShots Coaching and Tennis in Schools programs are proving to be very successful in attracting and developing players from a very young age.
The tournament ran smoothly under the supervision of Referee Jill Sheridan and all the players were complimented for their good sportsmanship and friendly attitudes. Several players in particular, were nominated for the Medibank Healthy Player Award, which will be won by the player who receives the most nominations during the 6 tournament series. Feedback from players and their parents was very positive and everyone appeared to enjoy the round robin format as well as the opportunity it gave them for more match play.
Sorrento Tennis Club wishes to sincerely thank Medibank for sponsoring the tournament series and all the volunteers and Tennis West staff for their invaluable assistance
