The 3 front showcourts at the State Tennis Centre have been resurfaced with Plexicusion reflecting the same True Blue colour scheme found at the Australian Open, Hyundai Hopman Cup and all Australian Open Series events around the country.
Sports Minister Terry Waldron visited the State Tennis Centre to celebrate the completion of the $45,000 investment in the new courts, a joint initiative between the Department of Sport and Recreation, Tennis Australia and Tennis West. Tennis West CEO Michael Robertson commented that the project was a prime example of how the excellent relationship among multiple stakeholders led to a positive outcome. The proactive stance of the Tennis West Board led to the pooling of resources, with Board member Warren Harding brokering the investment from government.
The refurbished courts will be used for practice by the Hopman Cup’s elite field during the tournament, but will also provide a state of the art facility giving our best young player the opportunity to train on a world class surface. Two benefactors of the new courts after the Hopman Cup will be Maddison Inglis and Anja Dokic, the recently crowned 18 and under and 16 and under National Champions who train year round at the State Tennis Centre.
