France’s Alize Cornet overcame an injury scare to beat Spain’s Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2 6-2 in Friday’s Hopman Cup tie at Perth Arena before Jo-Wilfried Tsonga sealed France’s place in Saturday’s final with a tougher-than-expected 6-4 6-7 6-2 victory over 194th-ranked Daniel Munoz-De La Nava.
Cornet breezed through the first set in 39 minutes but was troubled by a hamstring injury during the second set.
The 23-year-old stretched and flexed her left leg on numerous occasions, but fought on to win the match in 81 minutes.
“It’s a bit the hamstring,” Cornet said.
“It’s the first match of the season so the muscles are getting used to it.
“It’s not easy. I’m feeling ok. I really hope we’ll make the final.”
