Esperance SouthCoast junior members celebrate the win

Esperance SouthCoast Tennis Club has officially been declared WA’s AO Blitz State Club winner.

Gathering more than two million points over the past three months, Esperance SouthCoast Tennis Club had the most number of points in (WA), based on the Club leaderboard on the AO Blitz Website as at the 31 December 2013.

The AO Blitz team re-checked all completed challenges to ensure the final club leader board was accurate and fair and announced the winners on Monday.

SouthCoast Tennis Club spokesperson and secretary Kathy Ashby said that it was thrilling for the Club in only its second year to achieve the State’s highest score. Esperance SouthCoast blitzed the competition with the little tennis club taking on clubs from around Australia.

Members completed online challenges to accumulate points for their club. “One of the best things about the AO Blitz was that it created more tennis playing opportunities,” Kathy said.

“We embraced the competition in an effort to increase awareness of our relatively newly formed Club and the sport of tennis, which it did. And once we started we just wanted to do more. As a result the Club has introduced more competitions and fun days. It was a brilliant concept and enjoyed by all our members,” Kathy added.

Prizes included a large flat screen television and iPad, signage for the Club, a signed framed photograph from the Australian Open and Australian Open corporate tickets, airfares and accommodation in Melbourne for two club committee members.

The AO Blitz was also an opportunity to fundraise for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia.

Meanwhile, Esperance has finished 13th on the town leader board and will find out in the coming days which player will be playing for them in the Australian Open 2014.
