The Melville Palmyra Tennis Club has recently completed a series of projects aimed at upgrading the Melville Tennis Centre facilities.
The venue’s five hard courts have been resurfaced with the Rebound Ace Pro cushioned acrylic system, in a two-tone blue similar to the Plexicushion courts played on at the Australian Open. For the very young players, a dedicated MLC Tennis Hot Shots mini court has been installed, which will be used by the Club Coach.
The resurfacing of the courts cost over $50,000, with the club meeting the major part of the project cost. The club’s successful application to the National Court Rebate Scheme means that Tennis Australia will reimburse approximately one-third of the cost, while additional funding was secured through a City of Melville grant.
As well as the court upgrade, Melville Palmyra has installed three shade sails in addition to its previous two, to protect spectators from the sun. A Healthway grant assisted with the cost of purchasing and installing the new shade sails.
The newly resurfaced courts are available for public hire, in addition to Melville Palmyra’s nine grass courts.
