Preparations are now in full swing for the 2014 Mitchell & Brown Geraldton Easter Open with the 79th edition of the tournament set to attract players from across the state when action kicks off on Friday April 18th.
The annual event, a Silver Australian Money Tournament on the Tennis Australia Calendar, will see a mixture of the state’s best players and up-and-coming juniors take to the Wonthella courts, widely regarded as some of the best courts in the nation.
Tournament Director, Rick Arthur is hoping for a big turnout. “We have 41 different events on offer at this year’s event, catering for all playing standards from Under 10s players right through to the Open AMT Singles”. “This year’s event has fallen in the school Holidays, which hopefully will result in us attracting over 300 players”.
Apart from the Blue-Ribbon AMT events, all other events are conducted using a Round Robin format, ensuring players are guaranteed a minimum of three matches per event.
The Tournament Committee will be looking to improve upon the Tournament that was voted “The best in WA” by Tennis West in 2013. “We are delighted that Mitchell & Brown are back on board this year With their support and the support of all our other sponsors, we are definitely looking to make the event bigger and better this year”.
The 2014 Tournament will see over $9,000 in Prize money & Trophies on offer.
Past champions of the event include local products Brett & Darren Patten, as well as current Australian Federation Cup team representatives Casey Dellacqua and Storm Sanders.
