The March long weekend saw two Australian Ranking tournaments held in Esperance and the State Tennis Centre with around 200 entries in each. The hot weather saw players sweating it out in Perth, while the Esperance entrants enjoyed mild conditions.
In the AMT Men’s Singles in Perth, Scott Jones, continued his good form with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jake Faundez. Number 2 seed Louis Corker retired against Scott in the semi-final, while Jake beat the third seed, Jack Lyttle in a tight 3 set match. Scott and Jake teamed up in the doubles to beat Kyle Mackin and Max Tolstoy.
The Women’s AMT Final saw Megan Kauffmann and Maria Knott take a set each, before the younger girl (Megan) prevailed in the third. In the doubles, third seeds Chelsea Church and Amelia Jones, beat fourth seeds Issy Bailey and Olivia Rimmer.
Will Hann and Crystal Mildwaters were the 14’s winners and in the 12’s Sam De Andrade and Jaime Edwards took the prizes.
In the Esperance Men’s AMT, youngster Rafe Bonini beat Jarron Kretschmann, while a mother and daughter final in the Women’s AMT saw Vanya Kelleher taken to a tie-break in the third by her 12 year old, Lexie Weir with Vanya eventually prevailing. It was a fabulous match, thank you girls.
Luca Bonini was the 14’s champion, while Jarrod Capararo and Sarah Gaby won the 12’s.
