WA locals Scott Jones and Monique Barry finished runners-up in their respective age groups last week at the Victorian Junior State Championships held on the En-tou-cas in Melbourne.
National Academy athlete – Scott Jones was defeated by Stefan Skadarka in the final of the 16’s boy’s event 6/2 6/3 and then teamed up with fellow WA athlete Jack Lyttle to win the doubles title.
Monique Barry reached the final of the 12’s girl’s event before being defeated by Olivia Gadecki 6/1 7/6. Monique and Olivia then teamed up together to win the doubles title.
Western Australia had a large representation at the event with 15 athletes participating in the 12-16 age group.
Three of Western Australia’s Talent Development Coaches – John Thorpe, Brad Dyer and John Roberts travelled to the event with their athletes after receiving a Tennis Australia travel grant. National Academy Manager – Andrew Roberts was also present at the event.
