Mt Lawley Tennis Club (MLTC) is located close to the centre of Perth in Western Australia and is regarded as a significant entity in the tennis community. The club comprises 14 high quality grass courts and 10 near new acrylic courts under lights with a club house and ancillary rooms. The location has a high public visibility in a prime residential area with easy access from public transport. A qualified and experienced professional coach is being sought who has tennis coaching and management expertise and is able to add value to the other areas of the club. Expressions of interest are being sought for the position. The Head Coach is expected to:
• Develop and implement an innovative range of coaching programs from juniors to seniors.
• Accept responsibility for running the junior club on Friday (4.30-6pm) and Sunday mornings (9-11am), developing and enhancing skills of the juniors. MLTC appoints a junior coordinator with whom the coach is expected to liaise and contribute to such aspects as junior pennant selection and junior club championships
• Assist with the Club’s Board in initiating and implementing strategies to promote the club and grow membership, with a particular focus on the junior program
• Share or take total responsibility for the management of public court hire
• Participate in the Club’s social and tournament tennis program.
Selection criteria are:
1. Essential
• Acknowledged tennis coach qualification, preferably Tennis Australia Club Professional. This also implies a high playing standard
• Australian Citizenship or permanent residency
• Current Working With Children (WWC) check
• Strong, effective interpersonal skills to enable open and friendly communication with the board, members and coaching community.
2. Preferred
• A demonstrated ability to generate and retain clients
• Recognised experience as head coach
• Experience in managing coaching staff and program development
• A high level of initiative and ability to work unsupervised
• Qualifications or experience in running a business.
A short list will be drawn from the initial replies. Candidates will be asked to give a fifteen minute oral presentation plus a written business plan which supports their proposal. The successful applicant will be offered exclusive rights to coach at the club and expected to pay an annual fee to MLTC. The successful candidate will be offered a three year contract from 1st July 2014, with options for longer term. Other forms of income sharing may be negotiated.
