Fed-Cup

Australia faces a tough first round tie against Germany in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round in February 2015.

The Aussie team will face the strong German team, finalists in the elite competition this year, away in Germany just a week after the Australian Open.

Australia’s Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik isn’t fazed by the tough competition, instead relishing the opportunity.

“We are excited to play Germany again and hopefully get some revenge,” Molik said.

“I felt like we were so close in the last tie (semifinal in Brisbane in April) and this is another opportunity.

“We’ve enjoyed success playing Germany in Germany in the past, so we’ll go out and play our best and hope we can cause an upset again.

“They are a strong team and very deserving of their position in the final this year, and I know our team will enjoy the challenge of stepping up and playing one of the strongest nations in tennis right now.”

Australia and Germany have met 13 times in Fed Cup, with Australia holding an 8-5 advantage.

The most recent meeting was the semifinal held at Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane in April this year, which Australia lost 3-1.
