Matt Ebden has come through a tough three-set battle against Adrian Mannarino to advance to the second round of the Topshelf Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
Ebden ousted the 80th-ranked Frenchman 6-3 4-6 6-3 in one hour and 37 minutes to move into the last 16 of the ATP 250 grasscourt event.
It sets up a showdown with either No.3 seed Roberto Bautista Agut or fellow Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
It was a match-needed victory for the Australian; it snapped a seven-match losing streak and was his first tour-level victory since he won his opening round match at the Sony Open in Miami in March.
Ebden, currently ranked No.86, will team with Russian Dmitry Tursunov in doubles on Tuesday.
