The Cottesloe Tennis Club is a hive of behind-the-scenes activity as it prepares to host the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play off between Australia and Uzbekistan in September.
Already members of the picturesque beach-side club have been briefed by Tennis Australia and Tennis West officials on the processes involved with staging an international event.
There has been an enthusiastic response from members volunteering to assist in a whole range of areas to ensure the September 12 -14 tie is a success.
“This is a huge event, and a great honour, for a community-based club such as ours to be entrusted with a Davis Cup tie and the members have embraced it with great enthusiasm,” club Vice-President Allan Wall said.
“Tennis Australia’s Paul Daley last week gave members an overview of the logistics of presenting and managing the event and whilst the national body will have full responsibilities for the play off, there is still much that members can contribute to ensure players and spectators enjoy a great weekend of tennis.
“Committees and sub-committees are being formed and already we are enjoying working with Tennis Australia, Tennis West and the Cottesloe Council to ensure it all comes together.
“Having a Davis Cup tie here will certainly stimulate interest in tennis, not just at the Cottesloe Tennis club, but throughout the state.”
