More than sixty five children took part in tennis hosted by the Esperance SouthCoast Tennis Club at the Esperance Senior High School courts as part of a school holiday program run by Esperance Inclusive.
During the October school holidays Esperance children were given the opportunity to engage in a sports program at no cost allowing them to see what is available in their community.
Esperance SouthCoast Tennis Club vice president Kathy Ashby said she was pleased the tennis club was able to host the holiday program. She said the program allowed children to be exposed to what the Club offered and hoped to see many of the faces back again in the summer months.
Organising the activity day brought many of the Club members and juniors together. Volunteers organised and manned the seven tennis activity stations which were designed by Club coach Selma Holthouse.
“It was wonderful to see the many parent helpers and junior coaches all taking a role to ensure the day was a success”, Kathy added.
“Whilst we were not expecting as many children to come along, we had no problem managing on the day and were thrilled with the overall success “.
Inclusive WA representative Ellie Jones said the program encourages children in the area to participate in a wide range of sporting activities.
Activities were for all ages, abilities and backgrounds and everyone could be involved. Children could try their hand at a range of different sports including tennis, volleyball, cricket and little athletics.
The program run by Esperance Inclusive and supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation was about making sport and recreation fun and free for all participants.
