3 November 2014 | Tennis West

Kingsley-PS

On the springy afternoon of Thursday 23 October 2014, classes 11 and 12 from Kingsley Primary School headed to the Tennis West Centre. Room 11 and 12 watched tennis players play, did speed serve and cardio tennis with Mrs Lovell, Miss Dowson, Miss Wimmar and Mr Devlin alongside instructors.

The four teachers gathered the 2 classes onto the bus supplied by Tennis West. When we arrived we were divided into 3 groups. I was placed in group 2. Group 1 watched tennis first, group 3 did cardio tennis and group 2 did speed serve. The speed serve didn’t work so group 2 watched tennis instead. 435 ranked WA player Jessica Moore played wearing a pink singlet adding to the springy vibe in the atmosphere. Fantastic rallies from Jessica Moore and her opponent, with Moore in the lead. After watching fabulous rallies from Jessica Moore and holding the Hopman Cup, group 1 and 2 joined together for cardio tennis. Meanwhile group 3 did speed serve and watched tennis.

Cardio tennis works on physical and mental strategies. It involves hitting, warm ups and running while wearing pedometers. After groups 1 and 2 did Cardio Tennis, all groups got together to hear from 2 tennis players. Very intelligent and mature questions were asked and answered. One of the players, Sally P is ranked between 150 and 160 in the world. Those who asked questions got autographs and a few sneaky, lucky others also got autographs . After a brilliant day it was time to head back to school for home time.

Tennis West were generous enough to provide our school with this opportunity because our school was awarded “Most Outstanding School” by Tennis West and we are a finalist for “Most Outstanding School” by Tennis Australia. Mr Devlin picked room 11 and 12. A video was also shot the day before to be used before the presentation at Tennis Australia where we are a finalist for Australia’s best primary school.
