Dandaragan

Tennis West had the privilege of travelling to the Moore Districts Zone to deliver a Term 4 Tennis Road Show. The Community Tennis Team delivered Tennis Australia’s National Program, ANZ Tennis Hot Shots (ANZTHS) to students at Dandaragan Primary School, Moora Primary School, Kalannie Primary School and Ballidu Primary School. The team comprised of Community Tennis Manager, Brooke Koenig, and Community Tennis Officers, Paul Oldfield and Ardian Fazliu. The team were lucky enough to see just over two hundred students, with ages ranging from Kindergarten and Pre-Primary, all the way up to Grade 7 students who were in their last year of primary school. All students from each primary school actively participated in the ANZTHS program and were gifted a ‘Play Anywhere Net’, that allows children to create a 3 metre tennis net for use anywhere imaginable.

In addition to the visiting regional primary schools and delivering the ANZTHS program, Tennis West also delivered an Introduction Course to ANZTHS. The course is aimed at those who are wanting to learn how to run their own program back at their respective club or community. The team received a request from Moora District Tennis Club as they were looking to run some additional structured programs that enabled their members to develop their tennis abilities. We also received interest from a number of members from Wongan Hills Tennis Club who were also interested in learning more about the program. In total, we had an enthusiastic group of 13 people attend the session and progress their skills in coaching and participation management. All participants were left with a manual on a variety of progressions and regressions of activities as well as a general guide on how to manage a session.

In summary, Tennis West would like the thank the D’Arcy Slater Foundation for their continued support and financial contributions to the promotion of the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots program to students in primary schools all across Western Australia. Without their generous support, our ability to increase the participation levels of tennis in WA would be severely impacted and we cannot express our appreciation of their efforts enough.
