Team Australia will see Marinko Matosevic (Vic) step in for Matt Ebden (WA) at Hopman Cup 2015.
27-year-old Ebden sustained a mild calf strain during his match against Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz on Sunday night and has been forced to withdraw from the event.
“I’m disappointed to withdraw from the Hopman Cup, an event I love so much,” Ebden said today.
“While my calf has recovered really well it’s probably not match fit to be able to play on Wednesday night. I don’t want to take that risk for the tournament and my health.
“I plan to be fully recovered by the end of the week and be fit and ready for upcoming tournaments,” added Ebden.
Matosevic will team up with Casey Dellacqua when they face defending champions France on Wednesday 7 January at 5:30 pm AWST.
Hopman Cup 2015 is the official mixed team competition of the ITF and is proudly supported locally by the State Government, through Tourism WA. The event will take place at Perth Arena from Sunday 4 to Saturday 10 January 2015.
Hopman Cup is part of the Emirates Australian Open Series which also includes the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp, Apia International Sydney, Hobart International and the World Tennis Challenge (Adelaide).
