Andy Murray Hot Shots 400

The first day of the Hopman Cup kicked off with the Kids Tennis Day, proudly supported by Sharpie. We were lucky enough to have Great Britain star, Heather Watson, local WA player Jessica Moore and children’s Nickelodeon characters SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and the rest of the gang join in on the fun of the day. Children were given the opportunity to rally with Heather and Jessica, and all were treated to a hotly contested Tennis Hot Shots rally between crowd favorites, SpongeBob and Dora the Explorer.

This year Tennis West ran the Tennis Hot Shots Kids on Court activation for the 2015 Hopman Cup. Coaches from all across Western Australia were able to enter their registered Hot Shots participants in the running to attend the 2015 Hopman Cup and receive a chance to step out on court, in front of packed crowds, to promote the Tennis Hot Shots program.

We had over 60 kids from a number of primary schools and tennis clubs participate in the program, with one lucky club, Sorrento Tennis Club, pouncing on a chance to take a photo with the much obliged and current world number six, Andy Murray. The kids were given a sneak peak of the backstage area where the players would often warm up before big matches, as well as the opportunity to rally on the same court where their idols would compete. A number of the participants were given a further player experience by being interviewed while on the court.

Tennis West received great feedback from the army of parents and coaches involved, with one parent in particular writing, “…the kids (and the parents) will never forget this amazing experience”.

Tennis West would like to thank the Hopman Cup for their cooperation during the event, and highlight the efforts of all coaches and parents on the day. “
