WA players Talia Gibson, Shanelle Iaconi, Ella Nurkic and Taylah Preston traveled with Coach John Roberts from Brixton Tennis to the Australian Open on week two to compete in the National Super 10s competition. The team was seeded 5th and finished 4th overall completing convincing wins over ACT and NT and suffering narrow losses to SA, QLD and NSW. Talia Gibson arguably played the match of the tournament losing by a single game to # 1 ranked Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz.
On the penultimate evening of the trip the girls were rewarded with tickets to watch the women’s final with their coach and TA mentor Ian Barclay who has coached many top professional players including Wimbledon Champion Pat Cash. They received valuable tips on the night; and with Serena’s emphatic serving performance they are encouraged to work very hard on this important aspect of the game.
