During the winter months in the Southern Hemisphere, National Academy – WA athletes have been busy in the Northern Hemisphere. Seventeen-year-old Maddison Inglis was competing on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Tour. After a being a strong contributor to the winning Australian team at the Grand Slam Team Event, Inglis had a challenging time at both the Grade 1 Nike Junior International Roehampton and Wimbledon Junior Events. The highlight of the trip was partnering with Queensland’s Kimberly Birrell making the semifinals of doubles at the Roahampton event. Inglis has returned home eager to continue to improve and develop her game.
Fourteen-year-old Tristan Schoolkate is on the Tennis Australia World Junior Teams tour currently playing on European Junior Tour (14/U). Schoolkate is gaining more experience playing at the international level and spending more time developing his game on the red clay. Schoolkate has currently made the 3rd round in an event in Netherlands and this week lost to the number 2 seeded in the second round and partnered with Filippo Moroni from Italy to make the quarter finals of Doubles.
Up next, seventeen-year-old Scott Jones along with sixteen-year-old Louis Corker will travel to Fiji to play in the Oceania Closed Junior Championships. Schoolkate will next play at the Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaften U14 Kreis Düren Junior Tennis Cup before representing Australia at the 14/U ITF World Junior Teams event in the Czech Republic.
