Tennis West, in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation, travelled to Tasmania with 5 regional athletes from across Western Australia for a 9 day tour, 12th July – 20th July, 2015. All athletes competed in two Australian Ranking Tournaments; 2015 Stringlab Junior Championships & 2015 TTA Launceston Junior Championships.
The Regional Talent Development (RTD) Program is a scholarship in which regional athletes are able to apply for, if they meet a set criteria. Four of the six successful athletes received a full scholarship which included funding to support their tennis development (equipment, coaching, travel, tournament fees etc) as well as a subsidised tour interstate. Full scholarship holders were; Jack Hodgkinson (Geraldton), Kayla Myburgh (Bunbury), Joshua Tait (Bunbury) and Abbi Gibson (Albany, didn’t travel). A further two athletes were invited to Tasmania who just missed out on the full scholarship. These athletes were; Michael Frayne (Bunbury) and Connor Lord (Dalyellup). Team Managers were Paul Oldfield and Brooke Koenig from Tennis West.
