The State’s best tennis players will take to the courts on Saturday in a bid to win the much coveted State League Shields, and for the first time, a share of $16K in prize money. After 14 rounds of intense competition, the top two Men’s and Women’s teams will play off this weekend to decide who is the best in the West.
The Men’s State League Final, between Cottesloe TC and Wembley Downs TC, will be hosted by Cottesloe Tennis Club from 12.30pm.
The Women’s State League Final, between Blue Gum Park TC and North Beach TC, will be hosted by Blue Gum Park Tennis Club from 12.30pm.
Cottesloe, who enjoyed a top-of-the-table finish, will look to capitalize on their winning form, after a strong Semi-final performance against Peppermint Grove. However, standing in their way will be the formidable team from Wembley Downs, led by captain, Brenton Bacon and the in-form Jake Robinson, who last week led their team to victory against the mighty Hensman Park TC on their road to the Final. It has been over 10 years since Wembley Downs took home the silverware, and they have a challenging job ahead of them, competing on Cottesloe’s home soil against some of the strongest players in the competition, including Andrew Roberts, Brett Patten, Joel Pleydell, Mitchell Pleydell, and Scott Jones. The teams go into the Final one-all, setting the scene for a thrilling day of play.
In the Women’s Final, reigning champions, Blue Gum Park will look to use the home side advantage in their quest to keep their names firmly on the shield. Blue Gum Park will be headed up by last year’s State League MVP, Nina Catovic, who will line up alongside some of the stalwarts of the competition, including Nicole Sewell, Sheridan Currie and Astrid Kanther. North Beach, captained by the imposing Shona Lee, will be looking to draw upon Round thirteen’s winning form against Blue Gum Park, with Shona Lee and Stephanie White all notching up impressive wins against their opponents. The season score sits 2-1 in Blue Gum’s favour, but the North Beach underdogs will be hungry to secure their club’s first ever Women’s State League Shield.

Tennis West’s Tennis League is the largest single Association inter-club league competition in Australia. It is open to Tennis West affiliated club members of all ages and abilities. Around 8,000 players participate in Summer Tennis League, and 5,000 players in Winter Tennis League. Competitions are offered for Adults, Juniors and Seniors.
