WA tennis coach, Bojana Bobusic was recently announced as the second WA candidate to receive a Tennis Australia Women’s Coaching Scholarship
The scholarship is part of Tennis Australia’s commitment to increase the number and quality of female tennis coaches in Australia, and was introduced to provide an opportunity for female coaches to access funding to support their completion of a Tennis Australia qualification.
Bobusic, who achieved a career high singles ranking of 222, has been coaching for 3 years, and states that her real passion is working with young female tennis players.
“My passion is working with younger females, especially in the developmental stages, as well as the transition from the junior to the senior level” Bobusic said.
Bobusic, who is one of only a small number of female coaches in WA , would like to see a network of female coaches introduced in WA, whereby ideas and challenges can be discussed. She has encouraged other females who have a passion for tennis to get involved in a coaching course.
“The thing I love the most about tennis coaching is helping players get the most out of themselves and creating an environment in which players enjoy being in. I also love being a role model and mentor to the younger females and helping them show the many different pathways that the sport of tennis can provide” Bobusic said.
Scholarship recipients are provided with mentoring during the completion of their studies. Bobusic has chosen to work with Tennis Australia National Women’s Development Manager, Rohan Fisher.
“ I was very fortunate to be coached by Rohan when I was on the tour. Not only did I learn so much about my game but I also had a lot of fun working with him. I believe in his values and his style of coaching, and I think he could really add value to who I am as a coach, and the way I teach” Bobusic said.
WA Coach Development Manager, Christina Ladyman said the scholarship will allow Bojana to further her knowledge and skills in the coaching industry.
“Bojana is an extremely worthy recipient of the Tennis Australia Women’s Coaching Scholarship. Bojana has a long history with Tennis and has already given so much back to the sport. It will be fantastic to see her working in the Coaching Profession. The Scholarship will help Bojana to undertake her Junior Development Coaching Course, as well as be mentored by a Tennis Australia employee, and further her Coaching opportunities” Ladyman said.
