Western Australia’s James MacBeth (Leeming, WA) from Blue Gum Park Tennis Club won a trip of a lifetime to Australian Open 2017 when he won the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues competition for himself and three team mates.
Late last week 9 year old James and his Hot Shots Leagues team mates Rylee Honore (Banjup), Gerard Hadianto (Bateman) and Sam Hesp (Mount Pleasant) flew to Melbourne to experience the first Grand Slam of the year. They were given the chance to play on the same courts as the world’s best and take a behind the scenes tour during the tournament.
James was also lucky enough to toss the coin before Rafael Nadal played Alexander Zverev in the third round of the Men’s draw on Rod Laver Arena on Saturday 21 January.
The competition was open to all ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues participants around Australia and simply asked participants what they love about playing in ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues at their local club with their friends.
The prize included return flights to Melbourne plus two nights’ accommodation for the winner and their team mates.
James’ answer shows his passion for tennis and great camaraderie between him and his team mates. “It is so much FUN playing ANZ Tennis Hot Shots League! We get to travel to different suburbs to play with different kids and sometimes those kids come to our club. I love playing tennis and I also like cheering for my friends when they are playing.”
Tennis West’s Tennis League is the largest single Association inter-club league competition in Australia. ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues form a major part of this competition and are the perfect way for children aged 7-11 years old to experience team tennis in a fun and safe environment, transitioning players from learning to playing the game.
