After an all Czech Final on Sunday which saw Marie Bouzkova defeat qualifier Marketa Vondrousova in three sets at the Perth Tennis International #1, the Aussie contingent are determined to make their mark in the second week of the Perth ITF event.
Hometown favourite Storm Sanders (AUS) was awarded a wildcard into the Main Draw of the tournament, along with Queenslander Priscilla Hon, who last week made the quarterfinals of the Perth Tennis International #1 before being knocked out by Vondrousova in her charge to the Final.
Sanders will face fifth seed, Kristie Ahn (USA) in her first round match, whilst Hon will take on Junri Namigata from Japan.
Seventeen year old Jaimee Fourlis (AUS) also qualified for the Main Draw today, alongside fellow Aussies Zoe Hives and Masa Jovanovic. The trio will join a large contingent of Australian players in the first round of matches commencing tomorrow, including Destanee Aiava, Tammi Patterson, Genevieve Lorbergs and Olivia Rogowska.
Fourlis will certainly be one to watch after last year winning the Perth Tennis International as a qualifier. Fourlis has had a dream start to 2017, earning a wildcard into the main draw of the Australian Open where she progressed to the second round, before eventually losing to Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS) 2-6,1-6. Fourlis became the youngest Australian female to win a match at Melbourne Park in nine years, and has just returned from the Ukraine where she served as the “Orange Girl” to the Australian Fed Cup Team.
In other first round matches, top seed Beatriz Haddad Maia (BRA) will take on qualifier Tereza Mrdeza (CRO) and second seed Riko Sawayanagi (JPN) will go head to head with Italy’s Georgia Brescia.
