The 2017 SunSmart Country Schools Classic is underway with the South West and Great Southern regions having already completed their qualifying tournaments.
A record 47 teams competed over two days at the Bunbury Tennis Club.
Dunsborough Primary School won their pool in their very first year of competing and were invited to Perth for the finals. Georgiana Molloy Anglican School topped the other pool and were also invited to the State Finals on the 17th of March.
In the secondary schools event – the Herbert Edwards Cup, Georgiana Molloy Anglican School and Bunbury Catholic College qualified for the girls and boys State Finals respectively.
Bunbury Catholic College and St Mary’s Mackillop College were also successful in qualifying for the Mursell Shield/Slazenger Cup Boys State Finals.
The day ended with a grandstand finish for the Girls Mursell Shield/Slazenger Cup coming down to the final doubles match with all the remaining schools watching on from the clubhouse, eventually qualification was won by Bunbury Catholic College and Manea Senior College.
The Central Districts tournament also got underway at the Beverly Lawn Tennis Club with Cunderdin District High School qualifying for both the boys and girls Mursell Shield finals.
St Joseph’s School qualified for the Herbert Edwards Boys and Merredin College took out the Herbert Edwards Girls. Beverley District High School was successful in qualifying for the Academy Plate State Finals.
All of the finalist will have the opportunity to compete against the other region’s finalists on the 17th of March to determine who is the SunSmart Country Tennis Classic Champion.
