On Saturday afternoon, Wembley Downs Tennis Club officially launched their new online court booking system – Book-a-Court, with City of Stirling Mayor, Giovanni Italiano unveiling the new initiative that will change the way the community can access their local tennis club.

Wembley Downs TC is one of seven pilot clubs in WA to have installed the new online court booking system, which allows online payment, keyless entry and around-the-clock access to the courts via pin pad technology.  Once a player books a court online, it connects with a pin-pad at the gate, turning on the lights when a player enters their unique booking pin on the keypad.

The seven pilot programs were funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation in conjunction with Tennis Australia.

The system is available to both members and non-members, with a key focus of encouraging greater accessibility and convenience to members of the local community.

The club officially launched this system to its members and the local council on Saturday afternoon with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Mayor Giovanni Italiano, key Tennis West officials and the Wembley Downs TC committee.

President of Wembley Downs Tennis Club, Mr Peter Doherty is thrilled with the benefits that this system will provide to both the club and the wider community.

“For clubs like Wembley Downs that rely on volunteers, this systems provides the community with an easy, user- friendly process for booking our courts that negates the need for a volunteer to be available to unlock the gates and turn on the lights” Mr Doherty said.

“Additionally the digital and social marketing that compliments the online system allows community members to easily make a court booking through our club website”.

Tennis West CEO, Michael Roberts believes this system is the way of the future for tennis and is a positive step forward for WA clubs who can now provide a new offering to the local community.

“The Book a Court platform meets modern consumer expectations by providing a convenient, easy, online platform to book and access your local court. From the club’s perspective, this will reduce the administrative burden, and help to increase court hire revenue.” Mr Roberts said

“This system will help to change the tennis landscape in WA by making our courts more accessible and open to the community”.
