FED CUP SQUAD TRAINING CAMP

Maddison Inglis has been invited to attend the Australian Fed Cup Squad Training Camp at the National Tennis Centre in Melbourne from April 10-13, 2017. Athletes born between 1997 – 1999 that are seen as potential future Fed Cup team members have been invited. A number of current players and past Fed Cup players will also attend the camp. The camp will have intensive on court sessions, physical activities, team building events and a team dinner. Australia have been drawn to play Serbia, in Serbia on Hardcourt the weekend of April 22 & 23, 2017. National Academy Head Coach will be attending the Fed Cup tie in Serbia. Good luck to the Aussies!

 

AUSTRALIAN GRASSCOURT CHAMPIONSHIPS 12/U & 14/U, BERRI, SOUTH AUSTRALIA 

State Coach Len Cannell and Talent Development Manager Damien Ward will be providing coach support for the 14 WA athlete’s taking part in the 12/U & 14/U Australian Grasscourt Championships from April 8-13 to be held in Berri, South Australia. The WA contingent has commenced training at Cottesloe Tennis Club and are learning Grasscourt tactics, on court specific movement patterns, matchplay analysis, doubles skills and working on their all court grasscourt game. National Academy Head Coach Andrew Roberts will be running the sessions with Len Cannell and Damien Ward.

 

PARENT INFORMATION SESSION

On Friday 24/3/17 at the State Tennis Centre, Tennis Australia and National Academy Sports Psychologist Heather McGregor-Bayne presented on “ Supporting your child at Competitions”. The presentation discussed parent-child relationships leading into tournaments, during tournaments and post match. The presentation addressed key topics of entitlement and building resilience. Key messages were presented on sports psychology and how to support your child with an emphasis on praising hard work and good values. Heather has vast experience in the industry, having worked at the Western Australian Institute of Sport for a number of years working through two Olympic cycles. Heather has also provided services to numerous individual and team Olympic medalists.

 

TENNIS WEST CAMP COURAGE

State Coach Len Cannell was the camp leader for Camp Courage held at Margaret River tennis club. The boys camp was held from February 17-20 and the girls camp from February 24-27. The theme for both camps was ‘Resilience’ with on court tennis sessions, a duathlon (paddling and running), mountain biking in Boranup Forest, 18km cape to cape hike across beach terrain, team building activities, resilience themed movies, forest adventure zip lining and sand dune physical activities. AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR DAVIS CUP CAMP BRISBANE

Tristan Schoolkate has been selected for the Junior Davis Cup Camp – Brisbane from April 3-9, 2017. The top 6 male players in Australia from the 2001 birth year were selected. The camp runs alongside the Davis Cup Tie vrs The United States. The junior players will attend the official Davis Cup dinner and draw ceremony. This is great experience for Tristan and reward for his hard work and recent great results at the New Zealand ITF’s earlier in the year.

 

AMERICAN COLLEGE TENNIS  RESULTS

Astra Sharma is currently WTA ranked  837. Astra is a junior at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, USA. Astra is ranked Number 2 individually in American College tennis.

Scott Jones (2016 Australian U/18 National Champion) is No 3 on the team roster and having some solid wins in Conference play

Dominic Bechard, Scott Jones, Jake Faundez, Jack Lyttle, Louis Corker, Vuk Velickovic, Astra Sharma, Caitlin Cridland, Megan Kauffman and Sally Partington are WA players currently in the American College System playing great tennis and studying towards their respective university degrees.
