President’s Breakfast – Sunday 31 January 2018
The President’s Breakfast was the first of our many events held during the Mastercard Hopman Cup. Tennis West President Wayne Firns welcomed just under 130 guests, comprising of club representatives and volunteers, to the Reveley Room at Perth Arena. Afterwards attendees enjoyed a presentation from Participation Manager Brooke Koenig that provided an overview on how Tennis West is available to help clubs engage with their local communities.
The Presidents Breakfast offered Tennis West the opportunity to thank club presidents for their service and commitment to WA Tennis over the past 12 months, as well as providing guests with an opportunity to network and enjoy a day out at the tennis, seeing Australia versus Canada.
Celebrating 30 Years Volunteer’s Breakfast – Wednesday 3 January 2018
2018 saw the Mastercard Hopman Cup celebrate it’s 30th year and to commemorate the event, volunteers from the past 30 years were invited to a special breakfast hosted by Tennis West CEO and Hopman Cup General Manager Michael Roberts and featured speeches from both former Tournament Director Paul McNamee and current Tournament Director Paul Kilderry.
It was a great event for past and present volunteers to catch up and relive moments from tournaments passed before settling in to watch the morning session between Canada and Germany.
Legends Breakfast – Thursday 4 January
The 30th Women in Tennis Legends Breakfast was held on Thursday 4 January with special guest John Fitzgerald OAM. Over 130 people attended this exclusive event, which aims to raise funds for the promising junior female tennis players of WA.
Among those in attendance was Tennis West CEO and Hopman Cup General Manager, Michael Roberts, Hopman Cup Tournament Director Paul Kilderry, Women in Tennis President Trish Ross, Tennis West President, Wayne Firns, and Tennis Australia Board Member Greg Hutchinson.
Channel 7’s Peter Vlahos was the event’s Master of Ceremonies and conducted an entertaining interview with Australian tennis legend John Fitzgerald, who captivated the audience with candid stories about his playing career and opinions on the current state of Tennis.
Doris Brinkhaus from Brinkhaus Jewellers kindly donated three pieces of exquisite jewellery that were on offer as first, second and third prize in the annual raffle. All proceeds from the sale of the raffle went directly to the Women in Tennis Fundraising Committee, to assist with the development of junior female players in WA.
After the festivities the guests made their way into the arena to witness the showdown between Japan and Russia.
Schools Breakfast – Friday 5 January
75 West Australian Primary and High School teachers attended the 2018 Mastercard Hopman Cup breakfast. The breakfast served as a thank you event to the teachers and schools who have embraced the ANZ Hotshots Tennis Schools Program as part of their schools PE curriculum.
Tennis West Schools Coordinator Jason Marrable provided a review and highlights of the 2017 year and teachers were given the opportunity to network before enjoying the morning tennis session of Belgium versus Canada.
Coaches Breakfast – Friday 5 January
The Coaches Breakfast was a casual cocktail breakfast held in the lobby of Perth Arena. It was a wonderful morning, allowing Tennis West to thank 30 of the local coaches for the time and effort they put into developing the tennis players of Western Australia.
The coaches were formally thanked by Coach Resources – Project ManagerĀ Christina Ladyman and were thenĀ able to network before watching Belgium and Canada on centre court.
