29 May 2018 | Tennis West

Tennis West delivered the annual Girls in Tennis Camp for the Kimberley region with Broome Tennis Club as the host venue from 26 – 27 May.

The camp is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries with the focus being for the local girls to play tennis, develop new skills, receive advice on health and well-being and provide a safe environment for continued activity. Junior team members were invited to bring along one friend who is new to tennis, resulting in 17 girls participating in the camp.

The first day began with tennis skills and drills followed by Boab Health Services presenting on healthy eating and assisting the girls in creating a variety of healthy lunches and drinks. Later in the day Flow Movement Space delivered a yoga and meditation session. To end the day, the girls heard a talk from special guest Danielle Kettlewell, Olympian at the 2016 Rio Olympics, about her journey from grassroots to competing on a world stage and the pathway she took to achieve her dreams.

Day two began by joining 1,500 participants for a five kilometre walk along Cable Beach to raise awareness and fundraise for the Kyle Andrews Foundation, before heading to the Broome Tennis Club for tennis activities.

All of the girls who participated receive one year’s junior membership at their local affiliated tennis club.

Tennis West would like to thank and acknowledge the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries for their ongoing support of regional tennis.
