The 2019 Tennis West Volunteers Cocktail Function was held on Thursday 23 May at the South Perth Community Hall.
This event saw 300 members of the tennis community gather to recognize and reward the incredible contribution our volunteers make to our clubs, and our sport. Fittingly, the event coincided with National Volunteers Week which ran from 20-26 May. The theme for this year’s week-long celebration was ‘Making a world of difference” which represents the millions of volunteers who make a profound impact in their communities and on society.
In the words of Nelson Mandela, Sport has the power to unite people in a way that little else can. Sport is the social fabric or glue that ties communities together, and yet without volunteers many of our sports and clubs simply wouldn’t exist. So indeed it is our volunteers that create the social connection, and the sense of belonging that encourages people to become involved and remain active in sport.
Tennis West would like to acknowledge all of our volunteers who have served in many different capacities. Some have just started their volunteering journey, and others have been doing so for upwards of 50 years. No matter the time period, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your service. Volunteers are the backbone of our sport, and the heart and soul of our clubs.
Tennis West would also like to thank Showcase Catering, who not only sponsored the event, but also provided the incredible food available to the guests at the function.

In celebration of National Volunteers Week, Tennis West also produced a series of 7 videos featuring some of incredible club volunteers. These volunteers speak candidly about their volunteering journey, what motivates them to give back to their community and what volunteering means to them.
