WA’s juniors were given plenty of opportunity to hit the courts during July with four local tournaments held across the metropolitan region.
Heading off the swing of tournaments was the Silver Swift AMT held at the State Tennis Centre. Attracting 93 entries across 8 events, Ethan Dunn (16) claimed the Men’s Singles event with Lauren Nikoloski (16) taking out the Women’s Singles title. A complete list of results can viewed here.
The Mt Lawley Junior Silver & 10’s tournament followed with 201 entries across 16 events. Kendrick Chia won the 16/U Boys Singles title with Helena Jokanovic claiming the 16/U Girls Singles title. A complete list of results is available here.
The Hill’s Winter Siver Junior Open & 10’s tournament was held at the Brixton Street TC with 145 entries across 13 events. Ethan Cook won the 18/U Boys Singles title with Emma Black victorious in the 14/U Girls Singles event. A complete list of results is available here.
The final tournament of the busy schedule was the Coastal Classic Gold JT & 10’s with players returning to the State Tennis Centre. Attracting the largest number of entrants of the four tournaments held throughout July, the event accepted 252 entries across 15 events.
The high volume of entries demanded that two venues be utilised for the first two days of play with players taking to the courts at both the State Tennis Centre and Mt Lawley TC.
Qualifying rounds in both the Boys 12’s and 14’s draws were required to accommodate the large number of entrants in each of the events. Play was interrupted throughout the tournament with frequent rain delays forcing Thursday’s matches to be finished under lights. The rain continued on Friday forcing play to be eventually cancelled at 2:00pm due to heavy rain which continued into Saturday.
The frequent rain delays forced the match format on Saturday to be shortened with some events needing to be completely abandoned. The weather cleared just enough on Sunday, allowing time for the finals playoffs which saw Ethan Cook claim his second title for July winning the 16/U Boys Singles title and Maria Velkovska win the 16/U Girls Singles title. A full wrap up of results is available here.
Well done to all players who played throughout July and congratulations to the winners of all events.
