The Sports Facility Auditor is an online data management program designed to improve the knowledge that Tennis Australia and Tennis West have about tennis venues.

The audit process is adopted from, and aligned with major sports such as AFL and cricket who have been following the model for a number of years.

The information realized from the process has been vital in securing funding support from a number of support agencies.

Capturing information on facility provision, condition, compliance and renewal requirements, as well as participation levels and program provision, the Sports Facility Auditor will provide Tennis with a snapshot of all venues across the country.

This dataset will provide up to date information aimed to support our strategic planning and decision making at all levels. It will allow targeted support for venues, identify areas of strength and weakness, build on and strengthen relationships with all levels of government and allow for evidence based decision making.

The Sports Facility Auditor will enable tennis to collate information about the following:

Infrastructure Audit

·         Court dimensions and quality

·         Pavilion dimensions and quality

·         Accessibility

·         Grounds and Surrounds

Participation Review

·         Number of participants

·         Coaching

·         Competition

·         Program/membership fees

·         Availability of Social/Casual Play

During the month of June, Tennis West in conjunction with representatives from Tennis Australia, embarked upon the massive task of auditing tennis venues  across WA. Over a five day period teams visited 27 venues in the Lower Great Southern and Mid-West regions.

The diversity of venues in which tennis is played is one of the great learnings of this exercise. While visiting the Lower Great Southern and Mid West regions we had the opportunity to audit major regional facilities such as the Geraldton Tennis Club as well as more boutique community focused clubs such as Tenterden, Kendenup and Tambelup with the aim of this exercise being to collate consistent information about every metropolitan and regional tennis facility.

A special thank you must go to all  club volunteers who we met on site and were instrumental in providing us with access to the facilities and information about each club.

Over the next couple of years the Places to Play team members from Tennis West will be engaging with clubs all over Western Australia and auditing as many affiliated and non-affiliated venues as possible. This is a supportive process where we collectively look to ensure the long term sustainability of tennis in WA.

We look forward to meeting with all clubs as we progress on this journey.
