Following a hive of tennis activity in the last 12 months, the Busselton Tennis Club will play host to two more prestigious regional tournaments, when the D’Arcy Slater Cup (boys) and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup (girls) junior tournaments, commence on Sunday 25 October.
Attracting more than 80 young players from across the State, the longstanding regional tournaments will see players from 7 different zones, including the Midwest, Upper Great Southern, Lower Great Southern, Great Southern, South West, Central Districts, Pilbara and Eastern Districts, hit the Busselton Tennis Club to contest the 14/U junior singles competition over 4 days. Players will also compete in the hotly contested zone based team’s competition.
Succeeding the original Goolagong Cup (girls) and Clough Cup (boys), the Women in Tennis Foundation Cup and D’Arcy Slater Cup have retained a stronghold on the regional tournament calendar, owing to the competitive opportunity they bring to the aspiring athletes across regional WA.
Held in high regard throughout the regional zones, Tennis West Competitions and Tournaments Manager, Loretta Hughes says these pinnacle tournaments continue to attract talented players from across the regions who eagerly travel for the annual events.

Dominating the Geraldton-hosted event in 2019 in both the singles and teams competitions, the South West Zone will no doubt be looking to secure back-to-back titles at the 2020 event.
Due to COVID 19 and the suspension of Australian Ranking Tournaments across the country, players competing in the D’Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup will not be awarded ranking points.
The D’Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup Junior Tournament will be held at the Busselton Tennis Club from Sunday 25 October to Wednesday 28 October.
Supporting the D’Arcy Slater Cup since 2004, the D’Arcy Slater Foundation continues to do so in recognition of D’Arcy great love of tennis. D’Arcy, who tragically drowned in the flooded Helena River in 1991, was an enthusiastic member of the Goomalling Tennis Club, the Guildford Grammar School Preparatory School tennis team and the Captain of tennis in year 8. The Foundation’s sponsorship is country focussed in recognition of D’Arcy’s enjoyment of playing country tennis tournaments.
Having supported the Foundation Cup since 2002, Women in Tennis continue to champion for opportunities in tennis for all female players including players within both metropolitan and regional WA.
