Following last night’s announcement by the Premier, which detailed the requirements of the post lock down transitional restrictions, and confirmed today given zero new community transfer COVID-19 cases, Tennis West can confirm that a return to tennis and all tennis activity is permitted.
However, this does come with a number of restrictions. As the restrictions vary across the regions, please follow the information relevant to your region.
Please note: All directions are subject to change in line with Government advice
PERTH METROPOLITAN AND PEEL REGIONS
As of 6:00pm Friday 5 February, clubs can reopen and all tennis activity may return. However, it is paramount that the following post lock down transitional restrictions, as set out by the State Government, are strictly adhered to. Please note that the below transitional restrictions, specific to tennis clubs and tennis activity, are in place until 12:01am on Sunday 14 February.
Post lock down transitional restrictions – tennis specific
- Everyone over 12 years must continue to wear a mask in public and while at work, unless exempt or for outdoor vigorous exercise
- If you are actively playing tennis, you are not required to wear a mask. You must wear your mask at all times pre and post on-court vigorous exercise.
- If you are coaching tennis and not engaged in vigorous on-court exercise, masks must continue to be worn.
- All business and venues can re-open.
- 4 square metre capacity rule applies at all times
- Community sport can involve up to 150 people including players, officials and spectators
- Up to 32 people may be allowed on a tennis court at one time, as per the 4 square metre rule, however there may not be more than 150 people across the whole venue. Clubs are asked to coordinate their activities
- Seated service only at hospitality venues
Adhering to these restrictions, tennis competitions and tournaments may resume from Saturday 6 February 2021. Please visit the WA League Noticeboard for further information.
SafeWA
Please also be reminded that the use of the a contact register remains a requirement of the state government, either by SafeWA or a manual register. This applies to all players, staff, coaches, and visitors.
The responsibility for contact registrations will be shared between individuals and businesses – individuals will now also face penalties if they fail to scan in using either SafeWA or the contact register available.
Finally, the state government reminds us that all Western Australians must continue to practice physical distancing where possible and maintain good personal hygiene at all times.

SOUTH WEST REGION
As of 6:00pm Friday 5 February, clubs can reopen and all tennis activity may return.
There are no transitional restrictions in place for the South West.
Pre-lockdown requirements for the entire State still remain in place, and include:
- Mandatory contact registers
- Capacity restrictions for major venues;
Please be reminded that whilst there are no transitional restrictions in place, you must continue to follow the state governments pre lockdown guidelines which requires you observe a 2 sqm per person capacity rule for all venues.
SafeWA
Please also be reminded that the use of the a contact register remains a requirement of the state government, either by SafeWA or a manual register. This applies to all players, staff, coaches, and visitors.

PILBARA, GASCOYNE, KIMBERLEY, GREAT SOUTHERN, LOWER GREAT SOUTHERN, CENTRAL DISTRICTS, MIDWEST, MOORE DISTRICTS, EASTERN DISTRICTS, UPPER GREAT SOUTHERN, GOLDFIELDS, SOUTH COAST AND NORTH MIDLANDS
There are no new restrictions in place for the Pilbara, Gascoyne, Kimberley, Great Southern, Lower Great Southern, Central Districts.
